Totara's End of Term 2 Reflection
Wow - it's the end of the term already. Tinwald School has had a great term 2. It has been really busy with lots of events on as well as classroom learning programmes continuing.
Check out what Totara - R7 thought of their term. Each student was asked to select 5 things that they enjoyed from Term 2. The bigger the word - the more people selected it. You can make your own Wordle about your term.

Year 6 Big Day Out - Monday 10th December

The Year 6 group of 2012 enjoyed a great day out at Lake Hood and the movies on Monday. They had heaps of fun riding on biscuits behind boats, kayaking, swimming and having water fights down at Lake Hood. Then they enjoyed Subway for lunch before going to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3 at the Movies. Thank you to all the parents who helped at the Lake or provided transport. It was an excellent day to say goodbye to our Year 6 students - check out some photos:

Arrowsmith's entry

Check out a sneak peek at Arrowsmith's entry to the above exhibition. This photo is a mixed-up collage of art from Manuka, Totara and Harakeke. The real art boards look awesome and is a credit to all the year 5/6 artists. Anyone can view this exhibition from Saturday 13th October at the Ashburton Art Gallery. Taylor and Arrowsmith will visit the exhibition in week 2.

Tinwald School Speech Competition
Congratulations to all the children who spoke tonight at the Speech Finals. The audience enjoyed hearing about what you want to do when you grow up. There were many choices of topics from builders to teachers, Olympic swimmers to clowns and some children even spoke about just being happy. It was really great to see so many people come along to our new Hall. Well done to all the winners in each section.

Friday 20th July
The countdown is on until the Hall is open...

Very shortly, our very own Tinwald School hall should be ready to open. Keep watching this space to find out when! It should happen in the next few weeks!

In anticipation, many classes have been visiting and eagerly watching the progress as finishing touches are done by John Grieve Builders and the many other tradesmen that come and go. The next thing to happen will be the laying of the carpet and lino.

Totara (R7) went and had a sneak peek on Friday and here are some of their comments:

  • It looks small on the outside but it is quite big on the inside - Caitlin

  • The smaller rooms look a bit like bedrooms - Abbie

  • It looks like it has a good design - Georgia

  • It has more space and more rooms than I expected - Sam

  • It will be great to have music lessons in there - Zac

  • It is really dusty on the inside - Oliver

  • I thought the colours chosen for the walls were good - Jared

It is hoped that the first event to be held in the hall after the opening ceremony will the the speech finals night on August 14.

Clubs Day - Behaviour Reward

Wednesday 27th June
Today Tinwald School enjoyed a 'clubs afternoon' today to celebrate the end of term and to say thank you and well done to all the children who have managed themselves and their behaviour this term. Children chose a club they would like to do. There were lots of choices like Rippa Rugby, playdough, Lego, baking, team games, movie, card making, squash, indoor hockey, painting, limestone carving, chocolate making and hobo stove cooking. We would like to say thank you to the parents and grandparents who came along and took a club. Without your support, we would not be able to offer the choices that we did. Thanks for supporting Tinwald School. Check out some photos from the fun.

House Leaders Elected

Congratulations to Tessa, Sam, Oliver, Zac, Tom, Josh, Bradley and Loren who have been elected as House Leaders for 2012. This now completes our full set of leaders and responsibilities for 2012. Well done to all children throughout the school who have been given a job as a student councillor, leader, librarian, wet day monitor etc. We hope you enjoy your role and do your very best at it.

Logan and Ashlee are Young DJs
Logan and Ashlee represented Tinwald School on Classic Hits this morning. Well done on speaking so clearly. We loved hearing all your shout outs!

Logan Unwraps The Press...

At this assembly, the House and School Leader badges were presented by Ashburton College Head Girl and former Tinwald student - Sam McLay. She was assisted by Clara Watson who is also a leader at Ashburton College and has judged our Speech Competition for the last two years. It was great to have these students come and talk to our children about their leadership beginnings. Sam was a School Leader at Tinwald back in 2005!
Maddy had a very lucky assembly by winning the CBS Banking Prize for Term 1 and also the mountain bike that was drawn as a result of fundraising for Camp. Well done Maddy!

SPCA Mufti Day - Friday 23rd March

SPCA Mufti Day
Today the Student Council hosted the first mufti day for 2012. They chose to support the Mid Canterbury SPCA. If children chose to wear mufti, they had to bring a gold coin or a donation of pet food. Our school was able to raise over $160 and handed over a big box of pet food to the SPCA.
A representative from the SPCA came and accepted the donation at a quick assembly today. We also had a fun dress up competition for those who dressed up as an animal. There were lots of cats and mice and even frogs and crocodiles! The Student Council were the judges. Congratulations to all the winners.
Check out some photos from the dress ups.

Preparing for Camp Next Week!

Arrowsmith children have been working together this week to prepare for Camp in Week 7. They have been making flags in their bunkroom groups to take to Camp. The flags that they have made all represent their bunkroom group and each group member had to participate and contribute to the design and making process. Click here to see some more photos of them working on their flags.

Christchurch Earthquake Anniversary - Wednesday 22nd February

Today our school came together to remember those people who lost their lives in the Christchurch Earthquake. We all joined the rest of NZ in holding 2 minutes silence at 12:51pm. At this time we stood still and bowed our heads as a sign of respect.

Here we are at the start of the Earthquake Assembly.

December 2011

Congratulations to the 2011 prize winners who were acknowledged at the end of year assembly on Tuesday night. There were over 140 awards given out, some for hard work in the classroom, on the sports field or for working well with others. Some awards thanked children who had been in leadership roles during the year. This assembly was also our final chance to say goodbye the 41 year 6's, who leave at the end of this year.
